H - The Heart of a Rose

The poem is multi-faceted; much like life itself is. At first glance, it is a love poem but if one searches its depths, we learn that each aspect of our lives, lives life in a similar fashion. Some people refer to this as peeling back the layers of an onion. A rose, for me, is a better analogy. Peeling onions always makes me cry whereas the thought of watching life unfurl with, perhaps, a scratch or two from thorns, has an intimacy about it which intrigues me.

Our conscious is in control of our subconscious which is in control of who we are. Thank goodness for that because it means that we can change our lives.  If we understand that each phase of our lives is a growth towards a new unfurling, we would better understand the connection between our conscious and our sub-conscious minds.

In the final analysis, love is the key to everything good on earth. God is Love which means that, at the heart of who we are, is God and a beautiful, pure love.

THE HEART OF A ROSE

The heart
Of the rose
Lies hidden
Within its many entwined layers
Revealing itself
Only
As each delicate petal
Unfurls
In the fullness of time

As the rose is
So we are
Love swathed and concealed
Until
Replete with tending
Love ripens
To release a soul
Unguarded
To share one other’s heart

  2. I like the idea: a rose instead of an onion. Found you through AtoZ.
