M - Mulled

Job 30:29
"I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls."

To love an animal is to know love on a different level. It is no coincidence that 'dog' is an anagram of 'God'. God is love and the unconditional love that dogs give is something which humans would do well to emulate. My pets are an integral part of my life and the dogs are honestly like so many tails following me around wherever I go.

Here we are, enjoying a roaring winter fire. I'm the only one allowed to have the warm, cozy drink though.

I opened a bottle of red wine (I like Shiraz or Merlot although Cabernet Sauvignon is also great). I added a few orange slices, spices such as cinnamon, cloves and aniseed, honey, and a generous amount of brandy. I let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes. Delicious warmth all the way through and is so Yum! Mulled wine at its finest!

I've added some photographs of interesting pets at a game lodge as well.

MULLED

Light rain falls
Chilling
Cold drops
Glisten
Under street lights
On cars
Illuminating sidewalks and houses
As I sit
Late into the night
(or early morning, depending on your view)
In the winter cold
Mulling over
A glass of warmed wine
In my cozy
Safe
Living room
With the world's best dogs
At my side

  1. I found your blog through the A to Z Challenge and I've enjoyed reading your posts. At first I thought - eek, warthog. But, seeing them cuddled on the couch that way has caused me to rethink that impulse. They are kinda cute. And, I can't imagine what they think, looking at us humans. Probably eek!
Keep up the good work! Happy Wednesday! www.dianeweidenbenner.com

  2. I too love animals and thanks also for the comment about Dogs spelled backward. Our pets are truly our children. We love them so!

  3. Hello, Diane (my second name :))

    Thank you.

About the warthogs, I know, right? It is quite unusual for them to be so tame but they have been known to wander indoors from the cold and take up their 'own' spot. That is an interesting game lodge where horses, dogs and giraffe, amongst other animals, wander around together.

I'm having issues with Internet (not unusual for South Africa) and will visit you as soon as it's stable.

    Warm regards
    Felicity

  4. Warthogs for pets?! I didn't even know they could be that tame to be around dogs. Awesome post and great pics. My dog is also an integral part of my life and you're right about the need for more unconditional love in the world. Thanks for sharing this for A to Z. - Dragons & Spaceships
