An Angel Came at Dawn

To old friends whom I met last year and to new friends whom I'll meet along the way, here we are again.  This time around I'm a little bit wiser and a whole lot more excited.

For this year's April A - Z Challenge, I'm concentrating on poems, most of which will be short and easy to read; some of which may bring on a smile or a frown but at the least, I hope they will all give you pause and that you'll enjoy them.

An Angel Came at Dawn

I stood alone amidst the countless
Judged by those who knew no life
Confusions and compromises enveloped me
Envelop me still
In my quest to reconcile the irreconcilable
I remember
Those times I was probed for details
Of I knew not what

How long ago it seems that I knew what life was meant to be
What I felt about that life and how I feel about it now
Did it create a barrier for me?
My memories of so long ago
I honestly do not know

The probes into my innermost being
Were wondrous even in their violation
For me they were always the promise
The spending of a time apart
From the intrusion of
Leering looks
Lurid words
Blatant threats

This day an Angel of the light
Came for us at the rising of the dawn
I recognised that she was what I was not
That she was everything I lacked
In her eyes I saw a mother
In my mind I saw a fertility

It was only when I truly looked into her eyes
I finally beheld what my eyes had refused to see
That everything I believed was wrong
Was right
That everything I judged as dark
Was Light

    1. Thanks, Alex

For a non-photographer, it did work well... :) It was taken with my phone so I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

  2. It's funny how life turns us on our heads like that sometimes. The more we think we understand, the more we come to realize we don't always understand what we thought we did. Beautiful poem and image..
